Statements of intent to host Euro-Par 2011 now requested
This year's preference: Eastern Europe
At its next meeting in 2009 in Delft, the Euro-Par Steering
Committee will consider bids to host Euro-Par 2011. Euro-Par is an
annual conference series, which provides the major European venue
for the presentation of research results in this area. So far,
the Eastern-most Euro-Par sites were Passau, Klagenfurt and Dresden.
This year, Euro-Par is looking farther East inside Europe.
The Euro-Par Steering Committee is now requesting statements of intent to
bid for Euro-Par 2011. Potential sites that pass the preselection phase
will then be asked to submit a full bid and advised in its preparation.
Statements of intent should be brief (three to five pages) and should contain
information in telegram style on
- the site (local infrastructure and travel connections)
- the organization team (the person(s) in charge, their experience
in running conferences, their research experience in parallel computing)
- the budget (major line items; important: local cost factors like
room charges, etc.)
Statements of intent must be submitted in electronic form to:
christian.lengauer@uni-passau.de .
The timeline is as follows:
- 15 January 2009: statement of intent due
- Spring 2009: reviewing of the preliminary statements by the
Steering Committee, and recommendations issued to each of the
sites for the full bid
- 15 July 2009: full bids due
- August 2009, at Euro-Par 2009: final decision for 2011
Institutions wishing to make a bid should be able to provide the usual
facilities to run a conference for up to 400 delegates including both
plenary sessions and at least six parallel streams. If you are
planning to make a bid, you should obtain detailed guidelines from the
Chair of the Euro-Par Steering Committee in advance. Details of the
format of the conference will be decided by the programme and
organisation committee for the conference in each year, but would
usually include:
- tutorials
- vendor exhibition
- invited papers (60 minutes)
- distinguished and regular papers (30 minutes)
- vendor presentation sessions
- panels or problem sessions
Full bids should include details of the people responsible for the conference
organisation, of the facilities to be used, of access (i.e., local
airport and transfer to conference centre etc.), a draft budget based on
a break-even figure of 250 delegates, and a brief supporting case which
takes account of each of the evaluation criteria listed below. The
budget should indicate what is inclusive in the delegate fee (e.g.,
proceedings, refreshments, lunches, etc.).
A set of satellite workshops accomapnying the conference should also be
administered. Workshop proposal are to be made by separate proposers to
the steering committee.
The conference fee should not exceed EUR 530 for conference+workshops and EUR 430 for conference only..
Full bids should not exceed ten A4 pages in length but may include, as
appendices, brochures or other printed material concerning the locale
and conference facilities, if these are available.
Bids will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Price
- Academic reputation
- Level of involvement
- Sponsorship

- Maintaining a balance between different European countries
- Experience of the organisation in hosting international conferences
Bids are open to all European countries, including those countries of Central
and Eastern Europe.
